Dagupan is home to the best bangus (milkfish) in the Philippines. Each year, as it holds the Bangus Festival, there are various activities, that are Bangus-related, including street dancing with Bangus themes as interpreted by dancers; Bangus art, and literary contests. Most popular, however, is the Kalutan ed Dagupan, which is grilling Bangus to gain a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Imagine a bustling city avenue – all 1,001 meters of it becoming the site of a grand ‘party’ for some 40,000 people consuming (and enjoying immensely) about five tons of grilled milkfish or Bangus! The annual festival brings merrymaking, rejoicing, gaiety, celebration – even amusement for the city of Dagupan, a river-filled community adjacent to the sea.
